Daniel Wheatley's "Blanket" Premiere Photos
8/15/2024
About a month ago, I was rushing to finish up this video—classic buzzer beater, editing until the day before the premiere. This video had been in the works for nearly two years, being worked on in LA and London. It was great to get to show the video in both cities. In even more classic-skate-premiere fashion, there had to be a number of things to go wrong. What should be a very fun night of letting loose and enjoying the fruits of our labor always needs to be a little stressful, right? Well, let’s double down on the stress and invite some SOTYs, icons and industry heavies to come check out our little video. That should help!
We begin with our first premiere in historic Los Feliz, an idyllic backdrop for an evening at the cinema
Uncle Neck on the scene! Luckily, Neckface hates heckling, so I was happy to have him bringing his signature bubbly cheerfulness to the premiere
Industry nerds—I mean, titans! Colin Kennedy, Eric Swisher, The Mez and Nate Coffman here to keep tabs on where skating is at in 2024
Crowd starts to even out, age-wise that is. Molly, Stephen, Lucas, Shane and Ethan
Ron Parker uses his “in-the-video” status to request ten tickets in a 60-seat theater
Boss arrives, anxiety rises
Another Baker boy on the scene, Ron Parker with Mike Gigliotti
Couple of the LA stars of the video. Must be a trippy feeling to turn up for your first video part. Mingus Gamble and Shane Farber finally getting to see their clips for a second time
Wow! MC IRL
Gotta get a hug from your old boss
Looks like Spanky altered this photo, but sadly he wasn’t there
Carroll, Gigliotti and Lotties alum Nick Michel sneaks in
Jay Bone brings his signature calming energy. Thankful for that
I had to get a photo with the star of the show for dayz
Okay, we made it inside and are past capacity. Thanks for sitting on the floor, Carroll!
I always have something really good planned in my head for these moments, and without fail, I ramble
Thank yous and shout outs for days, I’m sure. Enough!
Okay, let’s start the show
Twenty minutes feels like an eternity these days! Felt good when this came on the screen
Out front, after the show, posted with the Gamble family. Fun fact, Mingus is actually the second-most-famous Gamble in this pic
Girl family turned out to support the Gambles as well! Manch, Rickk, Mez, Smyth, Carroll and OG Girl head Johannes Gamble!
That’s a wrap for LA! Off to London
Touched down in England, and apparently our setting is this moody black-and-white vibe
Adam Hunter and Palace’s Jack Brooks are first on the scene
VIP section looking on point
Dime boys were in town from Montreal. Love how skating works out like that
Josh Wilson also somehow made it out? With Gareth Skewis, Phil Lavoie and Torey Goodall. Shout out, New Jersey, South Africa, Montreal and Vancouver
That’s Michael J Fox of iPath Summer Preview 2005 video fame with the brains behind Palace’s incredible creative visuals Stuart Hammond and the mother of my unborn child Adwoa! Strong crew
Didn’t know these guys, but they were a good time. I have heard good things about the girls from Sweden as well
Video star Matlok Bennett-Jones more than likely showing Casper Brooker some of his most notable winning runs from contests up in Sheffield
What the hell?! I’m pretty sure Nikolai is simultaneously here in London, at the Baker park, in Copenhagen at Red Square, at Lot 11 in Miami and filming a WKND skit in LA today. No za, though, weirdly
Friends chugging cigs everywhere, just beautiful
Jamie Platt and Matlok, booted up
Phil, Vince, Josh, Big Sexy, Hugo, Torey and Lloyd. What is a synonym for squaded, Alex?
I can’t tell if it’s just the black-and-white photos, but the crowd in London does seem to have a sexy edge compared to the one in LA
Casper with Kelly and Tom Knox. Just lovely
Matlok with Lost Art/NB Numeric/The North’s legendary representative Dave Mackey
Had to get a photo with the English star of the video. Don’t sleep on Matlok, internet!
Okay, time to move this party inside
Everyone seems ready. Thank God I’m taking these photos and don’t have one of myself about to give another rambling speech!
Always excited to run into Charlie. His stuff is some of my favorite in the video
Oh shit, we are in color!
Nerves begin to calm. The crowd seemed to enjoy it
Kyron and Mackey don’t want to leave! I’m flattered, guys, but also I’m renting this place by the hour and it is slightly out of my budget by the looks of those seats
You know how the rest of the night went with this London crew. Cheers to everyone who came out to London and LA. Meant the world, for real. Now stay tuned for the video release soon!
