Photo & Editorial Submissions
Thanks for your interest in submitting to Thrasher magazine.
In addition to instructions on how to submit photographs for our popular Photograffiti section in the printed magazine, this page will also explain the best ways to get your photos, videos, or story ideas in front of the editors.
If you haven't already, please check out our article on How To Get Your Stuff In The Mag
Most importantly, we encourage you to send photos, art, and stories as often as you want.
Thank you.
Thrasher staff
Notes For Freelance Writers:
Story submissions should be attached to your email as Microsoft Word or RTF documents, and sent to [email protected]. Please include your name, phone number, and mailing address. Today's modern word processing programs have adequate grammar and spell-checking capabilities; writers who use these applications have a much better chance of getting published. Please do not double-space words or lines.
Notes For Photographers:
We get hundreds of photo submissions, so it takes time to sort through them. We cannot individually reply to every one who sends something, so please be patient.
Stoke of the Day submissions:
If you want to get your own Stoke of the Day, email us vertically-composed photos 610 pixels wide @ 72dpi to [email protected]
Please be sure to include the skater name, location, and photographer name.
Photograffiti submissions:
By sending us photos, you are giving us permission to use them in Thrasher's Photograffiti section, free of charge. The photo(s) you send may be printed in the very next magazine, a year from now, or not at all. There's no way of knowing.
Email your Photo-G submissions directly to [email protected]
The photo(s) you send should have your name, trick, location, and the photographer's name CLEARLY stated. Ideally, each digital photo file would contain the skater's name and location in the file name itself (plus the photographer's last name, too). This creates long file names, but it really helps us sort through them, make sure we print the correct info, and it'll increase the odds of your photo getting printed.
Examples:
scott_palmer_chicago_ph_olson.jpg
AaronHanson_AlbanyNY_photo_howard.jpg
The tricks are usually obvious, so they don't need to be in the file name.
IMPORTANT: To print 'em in the mag, we need images at least 3 x 4 inches @ 300dpi. They won't be printed in the mag if they're smaller than this, so there's no real reason to send them.
Freelance Photographers:
If your intention is to show us your photo portfolio and you DO NOT want the photos printed in Photo-G, this need to be clearly stated.
The best way to show us your portfolio is to post your photos online and send the link to [email protected]
We will look at your submissions. Thrasher uses staff photographers 95-percent of the time. However, dedicated, talented skate photographers will get noticed over time if you keep sending stuff and updating your portfolio.
