"Scene Attack" 2019 Video Contest: No-Comply
2/13/2020
For the last few months, there’s been a steady stream of heavy skating coming out of the Lone Star State’s capital city, which makes it an obvious choice to participate in the Vans Scene Attack video contest. Four crews of skaters and filmers set out to destroy the streets of Austin in hopes of earning part of the $4,000 prize purse. All they had to do was film and edit their best five-to-ten minute video in under two months. Easy, right?
Watch the each of the videos now: Calvin Millar's blue, Henry Jeffrey Giddens III's 1343, Nick Marti's kit and Vincent Villagomez's Thirteen.
All of the dedicated filmers and crews deserve a medal for braving the hostile streets and ditches to bring us some ripping skate vids, but hard choices had to be made. So to decide the awards, an elite cast of judges was called in. The panel was stacked with the following living-legends: Jacob Rosenberg, Patrick O’Dell, Greg Hunt, Mike Sinclair and Josh Stewart. There was even an Oscar's style montage to give the whole thing a patina of Hollywood-awards-ceremony class.
Three prizes were given out for Best Video ($2,500), Best Transitional/Skit Edit ($1,000) and MVP Skater ($500). After a heavily contested race, Calvin Millar’s blue emerged as the clear winner of the Best Video award. From the opening skit to the closing move, his Madonna-laden ode to John Hughes' '80s movies is pure fun. But you will definitely want to watch every video in the contest as well.
Thank you again, Vans and No-Comply. And thanks for planning this contest in the winter instead of the summer.
